How Do Lip Implants Compare To Injectables? Q&A With Boston Plastic Surgeon Dr. William P. Adams

Lip Implants

July 3rd, 2014

Patient: I frequently have lip injections, but I recently heard about Perma-lip implants.  How do lip implants compare to injectables?

Dr. Adams: The disadvantage with injectables is that they wear off eventually.  After 4-6 months, your body absorbs the gel.  With lip implants, the upfront cost is steeper, but you end up saving money in the long run.  If you regularly have lip injections, I strongly recommend having the Perma-lip implants.  The procedure can be done in office under local anesthesia.

Whole Body, Whole Mind Approach To Beauty: One Boston Plastic Surgeon’s Perspective On Healthy Living

Horticultural Th

July 2nd, 2014

I have always felt strongly about taking care of the whole person in my practice.  What I do is not only about making someone look better, it’s about helping them feel better too.  I encourage my patients to eat well, exercise, and refrain from smoking.

Horticultural therapy is somewhat new in the field of medicine and psychiatry, although many have long known the benefits that come from having and tending to a garden.  Hospitals in the 1950s and 1960s were some of the first places to begin using horticultural therapy techniques with war veterans.  Today, horticultural therapy is accepted as an effective therapeutic modality and is seeing widespread use in many different settings.  Benefits include improved memory, cognitive abilities, task initiation, and socialization.  There as physical benefits as well – gardening is good exercise!  All that digging, weeding, mulching, and mowing gets our bodies moving and sweating in the fresh air.

There are two reasons I decided to write about this topic which at first glance has nothing to do with plastic surgery.

The first reason is that I enjoy educating my patients about current topics and trends in health and wellness.  A whole body approach to beauty embraces all that can help us look and feel better in our daily lives.

The second reason is more personal.  I have found a great deal of personal enjoyment from watching a garden grow.  Nature never ceases to amaze me, and the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.  It’s exciting to start a garden from seed and watch it grow.  And then to watch as your garden becomes busy hub for birds, insects, and other wildlife.  Gardens are also a refuge of peace and quite for me.  We all lead busy lives, and being able to escape for a few minutes and appreciate the simplicity of nature has a calming effect on the nerves.

Do you have a garden?  What lessons have you learned from nature and how have they impacted your life?  I would love to hear what you have to say.

Liposuction For The Neck Area Included In This Month’s Special

liposuction_neck

June 17th, 2014

As you may already have heard, this month we are offering $500 off any one area of liposuction.  Liposuction of the neck is one of the most common areas of liposuction I perform.  This procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia depending on the patient’s health and history.

To perform liposuction of the chin area, I make a small incision underneath the chin.  The excess fat is then removed.  Following surgery, patients are required to wear a supportive chin dressing for 2 days and 2 nights.  Following that period, they must only wear the chin dressing at night for usually about 1 week.  Generally, patients return to work within 10 days following liposuction of the chin.

If you are interested in liposuction of the chin, or a different area of liposuction, we are offering the $500 off special only through the end of July.  To schedule a consultation, please call my office at (800) 559-3056.
